Senior Research Assistant / Research Assistant (Data Curation) - Expired

 

Reporting to the Head, Genetic Counselling and Education, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Involve in the process of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and  developing other sequencing-based workflow
  • Perform tertiary analysis for WGS data (on-job training will be provided)
  • Undertake basic literature review, research, and related clerical duties in the scientific team
  • Ensure smooth data mining process, working closely with the bioinformatics team
  • Prepare presentation materials for Multi-disciplinary Meeting
  • Undertake the preparation of weekly journal club of the scientific team
Requirements:

 

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Senior Research Assistant / Research Assistant (Data Curation) who possesses:

  • Preferably a Master’s degree or above in Biomedical Sciences, Genetic Sciences, Health Sciences, Medical Statistics, or a related discipline, with at least 2 years’ relevant experience. Fresh graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree with basic knowledge and experiences of research studies will be considered for Research Assistant (on-the-job training will be provided)
  • Experiences in big data analysis and/or genetic variant analysis will be an advantage.
  • Good analytical and communication skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Great team mindset
  • Fluency in spoken Cantonese; literacy in reading and writing Chinese is a must; strong written English is an advantage

Associate Medical Technologist - Expired

Reporting to the Medical Technologist, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform DNA / RNA extraction from various tissue samples
  • Perform quality control (QC) and library preparation, and operate next / third generation sequencing systems and other laboratory equipment and analysers
  • Perform daily and routine laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Perform cell culture work
  • Assist in implementation of quality control, documentation, internal audit and external quality assurance programmes to meet the accreditation standard
  • Assist in developing new protocol and evaluating new sequencing technologies and analysers

Requirements:

 

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Associate Medical Technologist who possesses:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree of Science or equivalent in medical laboratory sciences, biochemistry, biology or related disciplines
  • A Certificate of Registration (MLT Part II) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board, Hong Kong
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience working in genetic research laboratory or medical laboratory with provision of genetic testing
  • Preferably with 2 years of working experience in short and / or long-read sequencing technology, including QC and preliminary data analysis

Reporting to the Manager (Infrastructure), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide direction and implement Information Technology (IT) infrastructure for the Hong Kong Genome Project within allocated resources
  • Plan, direct and coordinate infrastructure projects to ensure operational and backup requirements are met
  • Regularly monitor and check infrastructure projects for integrity and security
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues on IT infrastructure

Requirements:

 

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Assistant Manager (Infrastructure) who possesses:

 

  • Preferably a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related disciplines
  • Preferably 5 years’ work experience in IT, of which at least 3 years in IT Infrastructure
  • Solid experience in system administration of inhouse on-premises and cloud environment
  • Familiarity with Cloud products, resources, and resilience setup
  • Familiarity with Linux-based servers, virtualisation and container software such as Kubernetes and Docker Containers
  • Experience and understanding of enterprise platforms and solutions, including identity management (e.g. AWS IAM, Okta, WSO2), monitoring platforms (e.g. AWS Cloudwatch, Dynatrace, Nagios), backup systems (e.g. Veeam, Zerto, Rubrik) and concepts are preferred

Genomic Analyst - Expired

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and manage algorithms and pipelines for analysing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data in the Scientific Branch
  • Design protocols for genomic analysis and data management for projects under the theme of “Genomics & Precision Health” of the Hong Kong Genome Project
  • Assist genome curators in the Scientific Branch with their daily genomic analytic operations, including optimising and streamlining analytic pipelines for variant interpretation and visualisation for clinical applications

Requirements:

 

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Genomic Analyst who possesses:

 

  • A master’s degree or above in genomics, computer science, bioinformatics or related disciplines
  • At least 2 years’ experience in analysing whole genome sequencing datasets
  • Familiarity with publicly available human genomic resources, e.g. NCBI, Ensembl, ClinVar, UCSC and other open-source resources
  • Proficiency in working in Unix/Linux environment; formal training and experience with coding (e.g. Python, Perl, R)
  • Familiarity with variant calling from short read datasets, including copy number variant and structural variant.
  • Experience in analysis of cancer genomes, single-cell sequencing and long-read sequencing data would be an advantage

Next-generation Sequencing (NGS) Scientist - Expired

Reporting to the Senior Scientific Officer (Laboratory Unit), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Design, implement, and manage experiments to develop short and long-read sequencing methods and protocols of nucleic acid extraction (DNA and RNA), library preparation, sequencer operation and maintenance, data quality monitoring, and basic data analysis
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new and emerging NGS workflows and contribute to improving existing protocols and developing new ones to meet research needs
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, laboratory scientists, and bioinformaticians to design experiments, analyse and interpret data, and present results in team meetings

  • A doctorate degree in genomics, molecular biology, life sciences, or related disciplines
  • Preferably with 3 years’ working experience in NGS
  • In-depth knowledge and strong hands-on skills in molecular biology techniques and methodologies, including high-molecular weight DNA and RNA extraction from various sources, amplification, quantification, and sequencing library construction, etc
  • Experience with emerging NGS technologies and applications, such as long-read sequencing platforms (Oxford Nanopore or PacBio), single-cell genomics and epigenome sequencing is highly desired
  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving ability
